Barcelona's public transport system is an easy-to-use and integrated service that makes travelling around with children quite manageable. As well as the more traditional public transport options, Barcelona also boasts a cable car, tramway and uphill furnicular train for accessing higher up places! Barcelona is also very well adapted for cyclists and you can easily hire bikes for self-guided sightseeing or group tours taking advantage of the parks, beach promenades and many bike paths around the city. The Bicing bicycle share with points located at strategic points throughout the city are only available for use by city residents.

There are various travel card options that will enable you to get the best deal for your family. Children under 4 travel free on public transport whereas children of 5 and over pay the same ticket price as adults. Taxis are also an affordable alternative compared to other major cities especially when travelling in numbers with average trips costing between €5 and €8. A taxi from the airport to the city centre, with baggage costs approximately €25. The extra charges that you see added on the meter are for any items of baggage placed in the boot of the car which are charged at an additional rate. Barcelona's underground Metro service runs daily until midnight and throughout the night on Fridays and Saturdays.
