La Marelle is a new and original space in La Ribera for children to play and local parents to hang out over coffee. Run by French mum Alexandra Clua, the centre conveniently offers a café, ludoteca-style play area for younger kids and multi-lingual workshops and activities all under the same roof. Opened as a cultural association, the Espai allows you to join as a member and enjoy extra benefits. El Café de la Canella serves teas, coffees, breakfasts and afternoon cakes and is the ideal place for mums' morning get-togethers or an afternoon play date. Workshops already underway this Autumn are Yoga in English for children and parents, Music for Kids, infant reflexology, Experiment with Sounds for babies and Mòn atelier - an all-round movement, music, art and story session in French.
Twice-monthly, La Marelle also hosts a Saturday morning artistic workshop for children over 3. On November 3rd, kids can try their hands at making traditional Panellets and on the 17th November create their own pet to play with and look after! On Sundays the centre is dedicated to parties when you hire the space to celebrate children's birthdays.
Become a MamaMarelle or PapaMarelle for 20 Euros and enjoy annual family membership. Both mums and dads as well as grandparents and child-carers are included as socios. Members are allowed free use of the play area and reduced prices on both the workshops and courses. Use of the play space otherwise costs just 1.50 Euro each time. On the evening of 31st October, La Marelle are hosting a Trick or Treat event for Halloween. Meeting at 5.15pm beneath the balcony of the Asociación Cultural RAI on Calle Carders, 11 you can make your way through the streets of the barrio via the balcony of Pou de la Figuera on Calle Carders, 33, Plaça Allada Vermell and then on to the finish at La Marelle itself. Children and adults should come dressed-up for Halloween and get ready for some candy-catching from local residents and neighbourhood witches. At La Marelle, there will be games and surprises waiting for participants along with hot wine for the parents and a prize for the best fancy-dressed child!
