Children's Playgrounds in Barcelona

As well as Barcelona's parks, every neighbourhood has its smaller children's playgrounds or "jardins infantils" with space for kids to run around, slides, rocking horses and swings. In this section are some lesser known parks and play areas some of which have been recommended by other parents.

Please recommend a playground in your area.

Jardins Interiors d"illa

As part of an historic city project to provide leisure space for Barcelona residents, there are several children's playgrounds accessible to the public hidden away within residential blocks. These play areas are part of the Cerda project and are generally scattered around the Eixample district.  They typically have an enclosed play area and benches, open until dusk and offer a safe zone for kids to play away from the city traffic.

Where We Play

Poble Sec

Barcelona Playgrounds
We play at a couple of children’s playgrounds. One is opposite the Teatre Lliure where there is plenty of shade and an interesting wooden climbing frame - great for playing peek-a-boo with toddlers. There is also a wooden train with a carriage and some rubber tyres that you can put kids in an spin them around. There are 2 swings but unfortunately not with baby fittings. There are always a few birds which are also a hit with mine.

When it is not too sunny we also go to the Nou Parc de La Primavera (Just up from Nou de La Rambla). The kids' playground has lots of space, 2 big slides and a climbing ramp. Afterwards we take one of the paths and take a walk along the side of Montjuíc.

Poble Nou

The grassland and park space along the beach area at the bottom of the Rambla of Poblenou is great for picnics and running around. There is also a good children's playground with climbing, swings and slides as well as table tennis.

Les Corts

The Jardins in the grounds of the Hospital de la Maternitat (just before Camp Nou) are great for us. There is plenty of grass and seating, lots of trees and 2 children's playgrounds. One for smaller kids and another further up for bigger kids with a great wooden train for playing on.

Eixample

There is a really nice playground where we play next to the Iglesia de La Concepcion on Aragó (nr. Roger de Flor).

As well as the playgrounds by the Sagrada Familia, (there are 3 in total), we like to go to the Patio Manzanas, the public spaces or "Jardins" that you find within the interior patios of city buildings. The Jardins de Montserrat Roig on (Carrer Rosselló, 488-490/ Carrer Provença 535-537} have a small playground area and a large open space to play. There is very little shade in the summer. The park is usually empty until 5pm when it gets very full.

Gracia

The Jardins del Mestree Balcells on Calle de Sant Sebastion 73 (near Calle Verdi and Travessera de Dalt) has a playground we go to. It is only small but it has a nice family atmosphere.

Sant Gervasi

Playground Swing
The Jardins Turo de Putget is a great park with beautiful views of Barcelona (better than Park Guell or Tibidabo any day!) There are no real grass areas but plenty of space and a big picnic area with great views. The children's play area is lovely, very clean and well managed. It is also very peaceful until about 5.00pm when it gets really busy but it still has a really nice atmosphere!

We also go to the Jardins de La Tamarita on Passeig St Gervasi. They are a well-kept secret of the ´zona alta´ just next to Tibidabo FCG station. Lovely little park with fountains and fish ponds. Large grassy area and large kids area divided into two sections with a space for smaller kids (cute little slide and kitchen!). Really peaceful and very woody - a little sanctuary in the city!!

Sarria

The Jardins de La Vila Amelia park on Eduardo Conde in Sarria is a really great park that has a large children's playground on one side, a ludoteca on the other and a nice cafe in between.
