Joining your local library gives you access to the resources all of the Barcelona public libraries addition to an amazing range of discounts which include the Aquarium, Zoo, bookshops, museums, cinemas and theatres (see Barcelona Discount Cards for details).

There is a dedicated children's library,Lola Anglada, but most libraries have a sizeable children’s section and are good places to visit to encourage a love of reading early on. There are also children’s DVD’s and music CD’s on loan and for older children access to computers, games and the internet.

Libraries are currently running interactive and creative story-telling sessions aimed at a young audience. A description of these activities and a list of public libraries is below.  Check with your library for exact times and dates.

Stories using drawing, props, puppets and music.

Sac de Rondalles (3-9yrs)
Traditional catalan tales through dramatised story-telling

Mots en Joc (3yrs +)
Workshops, fun and games with reading and words. €3.50/ session; limited places.

Aperitius Musicals (1-4yrs)
Introducing music to pre-readers. Sing and play along sessions. Recommendations of books on loan in the library. €3.50/ session

El Mon dels Tovets (2-4yrs)
Soft toys used as characters in story-telling to pre readers from books available in the library.

Enreda’t amb L’Accio (7-13yrs)

Dynamic and educational workshops discovering books on the envinronment, music and art.

El Cau dels somnis (7-13yrs)
Puzzles, games ans surprises from the suitcase of a travelling harlequin.

Que Llegim? and Nascut Per Llegir (Adults)
Children's literature specialists discuss children's books and make recommendations.

During the summer months, Barcelona opens its Biblioplatges, beach libraries loaning 350 titles in Catalan, Castellano, English, French, Italian and German as well as newspapers and magazines.
