Tender Loving Canguros

Five years since its creation, Tender Loving Canguros, Barcelona's English-speaking nanny and babysitting agency, continues to provide resident and visiting parents with quality childcare that respects the needs of both parents and their children. 

The agency, now run by British mother, Lucie Bloor, has this year expanded to cover placements in Sitges, Castelldefels, Girona, Costa Brava and the Balearics. As well as providing babysitters for a special night out or one-off event, nannies can be placed on a weekly, monthly or more permanent basis.

All of the nannies speak English, many are native speakers and others are multilingual with languages spoken ranging from French, Italian and Russian to Arabic and Mandarin. In fact, most languages can be catered for as the agency aims to source the right candidate to suit every particular need.

When you choose to use an agency over finding someone suitable through your own means, you benefit from the skill and experience that the agency brings to matching the right candidate with your family. The screening carried out during the selection process is of particular importance.  In the case of TLC, whether for short-term babysitting or longer-term childcare positions, candidates are only selected that have sound, permanent nanny experience. 

An interested nanny or babysitter, looking for a position, is asked to provide a minimum of two childcare references from permanent positions. This permanent previous experience is preferred over sporadic babysitting roles as references for the latter can be difficult to validate.  As a result, the babyitters and nannies offered by the agency are far from casual babysitters and many have already held permanent positions here in Barcelona.

Some candidates provide police checks and have worked in American schools where they must comply with stringent norms. Others have CPR training and specific childcare related qualifications. Many are students in further education. 

 
Prices for babysitting are fixed at 8 euros per hour for one child, 9 euros for two children and 10 euros per hour for three children.  There is a 15% agency fee per day (to a maximum of 75 euros per week). 

For bookings over three weeks,  prices are provided upon enquiry.  With permanent positions, a one year commitment is expected from the nanny and there is a one-off agency fee that depends on the hours to be worked.  If  a family is not happy with a nanny in the first 3-4 months they can be replaced at no extra cost.
