The Classic Buskers, a UK musical act, featuring Michael Copley on over forty woodwind instruments and Ian Moore on accordion, are performing at the CaixaForum in Barcelona this weekend.
Their programme of classical music, "without the boring bits", has been performed throughout the world and the duo make regular appearances at La Caixa Obra Social venues around Spain. The performance is a blend of British humour and classical music that appeals to all ages. They describe their music as "arrangements and derangements of popular classics" ranging from Elizabethan times to the present day.
Driven by a passion to make classical music entertaining to even the very youngest, the pair use visual humour, audience interaction and an amazing collection of unusal instruments. These include flutes and recorders, wind instruments from the Far East, Bolivia and Romania, and even a brace of rubber chickens.
What also raises the appeal of the Classic Buskers' performance is Michael's ability as a linguist. He always communicates in the native language. So far the perfomance has been given in 15 different languages in more than 20 countries worldwide.
Their repertoire ranges from Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto and Haydn's Trumpet Concerto, (with a tiny ocarina taking up the challenge of the solo part), to Beethoven's 9th and Bizet's Carmen. Mozart's Queen of the Night and Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries give Ian the chance to display both his wonderful acting and more unusual vocal talents...
The Classic Buskers have performed in venues as well-known as Salzburg's Mozarteum and London's Royal Albert Hall. Whether you know a little or a lot about classical music, you are guaranteed an entertaining concert. The duo are used to performing to a family audience and have a children's programme of musical workshops at schools. Following the 60 minute performance, there is time for children to ask questions.
The Classical Buskers' concert, "Licencia para Soplar", is at the CaixaForum on Saturday 26th April at 5.30pm and Sunday 27th April at 12pm. Price €4.00.
