August can be a difficult month when it comes to child care. As with many expats, your job may be related to tourism which means, while the rest of Spain is on holiday, August is one of your busiest months at work. As with most of the city's businesses and amenities, summer schools and day-care centres also tend to close during August.
Clare and Scott Doane have come up with the original idea of hosting a small English summer camp at their home in El Masnou...
The summer programme, attended by their
own children, will run from the end of June until mid-September. An
experienced and qualified nursery teacher from the U.S. will be
organising various fun and themed activiities for the children every
week throughout the summer.
The camp is a non-profit scheme created to help other busy parents while offering their children the chance to enjoy some summer fun outdoors. Children will have use of the house and garden. An assistant/cook will be on hand and there will be plenty of toys to play with. The house also has a sand pit, child-protected pool and safe, enclosed garden.
Ideally, children should be between 2 1/2 years to 6 years old and be able to understand basic English in order to participate. Both teacher and assistant also speak fluent Spanish. There is a minimum sign up for 2 weeks even although these do not need to be consecutive. Hours will be from 9am until 6pm.
As well as play, art and craft acitivities will follow different themes such as Under the Sea, Deserts, Jungles, Rainbows and Circus changing weekly.
El Masnou is 30 mins. by train from Barcelona or 20 mins. by car.
