British SchoolsThere are a few British schools in Barcelona that follow the British school system although some switch to a Spanish curriculum at secondary level. The National Association of British Schools in Spain is an organisation whose members are British Schools recognised by the British Council and its inspectorate. Member schools are subject to inspection and staff receive professional training. They usually implement any Government educational initiatives from the UK.

Oak House School
Sant Pere Claver, 12-18
The school follows the British system (national curriculum) from pre-school to 12 years old and the Spanish system at secondary leading to the bachilleratos. In pre-school only English is used. Spanish is subsequently introduced in primary year 2 and then Catalan in primary year 4 (at 8 yrs). At primary level approximately 25% of teaching is in Spanish and 75% in English.
The English language is maintained throughout and pupils are prepared for Cambridge Certificate exams in English including, where appropriate, the International General Certificate of Education, IGCSE for university entrance in Britain, America and Europe.
The school has around 800 pupils of whom 90% are Spanish. Secondary school class sizes are under 30. The official school religion is Catholicism although other world religions are taught. There are 3 school bus routes available. |
