Re Moving to Barcelona 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago
We are considering a move to Barcelona for work and have one child of 2 and another of 5. We live more out of town at the moment and are a bit worried about city life for children and also what the schools are like for our eldest. We may also by then need a nursery for the younger one. Can anyone recommend nice places to live in the city. Which areas should we look at for schools etc? This will not be possibly for another 10 months or so.

Thank you for any help.

There are plenty of families living in the city from overseas. The city has a lot to offer for children and I am sure the experience will be an enriching one. Check information on Schools on this site in Barcelona Living with Kids. You will find links to other information on schools by area and nurseries. Most children pick up languages very quickly and at a local Catalan school (teaching is in Catalan here - not Spanish) they will adjust into the culture and their new life fairly rapidly. If you arrive after school application dates then you can ask at the Dept. of Education for a list of available places in your district. Many expats live in the Diagonal Mar area near the beach or in uptown districts such as Sarria. Equally, you will find us all over the city! I would suggest coming over for a visit as soon as possible so that you can pick up information on apartments, schools etc and get to know the different areas.
