Older Children 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Hi

Does anyone know any activities for older children in Barcelona in English?

My daughter is 12, and does not go to school, but would like to meet some children her age who speak english to just hang out with. All the organised activities seem to finish at 11, I supose most older children do things at school.

If you do know of anything, or have children that age who wouldn't mind an extra friend please let me know

Thanks in advance

Sarah

Hi,

I wonder whether she could take part in some of the activities at the International Schools that they have during holidays and weekends - The American School of Barcelona has a Saturday course with sport. Also in terms of organised activities in Barcelona for kids in English that I think covers her age, there is the Drama Factory (up to 14 years) which she may like. It is for native speakers.

Have you tried contacting the British council children's section in Bonanova, C/ Vendrell 1, Barcelona - +34 932 531 900? They offer various courses and I believe activities. They are mostly aimed at non-native speakers but there are also other native English speaking families who take their children there. They may be able to advise you at the very least. The same perhaps with the Institut d'Estudis de Nord America.

Collage Barcelona in Gracia also runs after school art and creative courses for children in English - I am not sure for which age.

For older kids, Esplais are great and you can find out about them at civic centres. They have lots of after-school activities and weekend outings for older kids and teenagers. They are not in English though....

Hi Sarah,

I know of a 10 year old who is looking for a playmate. She had English since she is a toddler and speaks it quite well, and her mum wants her to socialize with an English native girl. They live close to Villa Olimpica with a nice community garden where she plays every day. I met her last week with my son, and they are just great! I am sure she would love to hang out with your daughter.

Send me an e-mail, and I'll give you her contact details.
